What's your opinion?

So I am looking for a point and shoot to fit in my purse so I can take photos where every I may be. But I have had bad experiences with my previous point and shoots. So what is your guys' opinions? I am looking mainly at the nikon coolpix and the canon's powershots. I am open to other brands, but I liked the fact that I still had the manual mode on these particular ones and that rapid consecutive shots..since I am usually taking shots of moving kids. Let me know your take! Thanks guys.

I have the Cannon PowerShot A640. Of course, it really doesn’t fit in my purse... but once in awhile my wife, Liz, holds it for me.
I like it for many reasons, ignorance being one, but the fact you can use just the optical viewfinder and not the LCD screen. But, the LCD screen has various angles... which I love!! That's a big plus for me. That my vote!

I'm a Canon girl myself. BUT I would suggest going with which ever brand your "other" camera is (which if I remember correctly is a Nikon?), just because they will have similar features. And it's always easier to learn what you already know. That's my vote. :-)

I have the same camera as Don - the Canon PowerShot A640. Let's just say since I got it in July, I haven't picked up my film slr once. And for me - a serious film fanatic - that's saying something. I've loved this camera. No pressure though :)

We have a Canon SD870IS. It has image stabilization, auto face detection, wide angle lense, three inch lcd screen, etc.

It is small enough to put in your purse.. about the size of a deck of cards. This camera was a little pricey, but we had a cheaper one and are sooo much happier with this one.

Hope this helps,
